Every extra pair of hands counts

This page will help you involve parents in your Section safely and happily – whether they help once a term or want to step up further. Parent helpers strengthen programs, lighten Leader loads, and show families what Scouting really is.

Ways parents can help

  • Rosette nights – running a game, sharing a skill or helping supervise a craft session.
  • Camps and activities – cooking, driving, marshalling or hauling gear.
  • Behind the scenes – fundraising, grant writing, hall maintenance, uniforms swap shop.

The Blue Card question

In Queensland, adults working with children need a Blue Card – but occasional helpers under line-of-sight adult supervision may not. When in doubt, apply anyway: volunteering cards are free and processing takes a few weeks. Ask parents to start applications early if camps are coming up.

Inviting without guilting

We know family life is busy. Ask for specific, small, time-boxed help – “could you run the barbecue for one hour?” gets more yeses than “can you help sometime?”. Thank helpers publicly and often.

Try this: build a simple helper roster for next term and fill just three slots. Momentum follows success.
