Adventure is how we learn
Outdoor Adventure Skills — we call it OAS — is where the adventure really happens. It’s the part of the Australian Scout program that builds practical skills in the outdoors, from lighting your first campfire to leading a bushwalk.
Nine streams, nine stages each
OAS covers nine streams: Bushcraft, Bushwalking, Camping, Cycling, Aquatics, Boating, Paddling, Alpine and Vertical. Each stream has nine stages. Young people move through them at their own pace, from complete beginner through to expert level.
Learn by doing
No one sits a test to earn an OAS stage. Stages are achieved by doing — at weekly meetings, on camps, at region activities and out on adventures. Youth members record their progress and review it with their leaders when they’re ready.
Part of the Achievement Pathways
OAS sits alongside Special Interest Areas as one of the building blocks of our program. Every stage earns a badge that counts towards the Badges and Awards on each young person’s Achievement Pathway — including peak awards.
New to OAS?
Start with any stream that sparks an interest. No experience is needed to begin, and our leaders will support every step of the way.
