Age Sections Explained

Scouting is organised into age sections so young people can take part in a program that fits their stage of development. Each section has its own style, level of challenge, and opportunities for growth.

  • Joey Scouts, 5 to 7 years.
  • Cub Scouts, 8 to 11 years.
  • Scouts, 11 to 14 years.
  • Venturers, 14 to 18 years.
  • Rovers, 18 to 25 years.

As young people move through the sections, they usually gain more independence, responsibility, and say in their own program. The journey is designed to build over time, with each stage preparing them for the next.

If you are not sure which section is right for your child, a local Group can help you understand the options and current availability.
