Questions we hear often

Short answers to the things volunteers ask most. If your question is not here, your Group Leader or District Commissioner will happily help – no question is too small.

Do I need experience to volunteer?

No. Training, mentors and a supportive team are provided. Enthusiasm and reliability matter far more than qualifications.

How much time will it really take?

Depends on the role. Behind-the-scenes helpers might give a few hours a month. Leaders typically commit to weekly meetings plus planning. Roles flex around work and family.

What checks do I need?

A Queensland Blue Card before working with young people (free for volunteers), plus agreement to the Scouts Queensland Code of Conduct. See Training and checks.

Is training compulsory?

Child safe induction modules are required for everyone. Further learning, including Wood Badge, is encouraged and self-paced via training.scouts.com.au.

Can I help without becoming a Leader?

Absolutely – committees, fundraising, transport, maintenance and one-off event help all count. See What do volunteers do.

Who pays for my uniform and training?

Groups generally support core costs; ask yours about specifics. Adult leader training is provided through Scouting.

I am worried about something at my Group. What now?

Raise it promptly with your Group Leader or District Commissioner. Safety concerns follow the steps at Reporting concerns.
