The events young Scouts dream about
This page covers the major Scouting events — the ones members count down to for years and talk about for decades. If your child joins Scouting, these are experiences worth planning for.
The headline acts
- Australian Jamboree (AJ2028). The flagship national camp for Scouts (11–14). Around ten days of massive activities, sub-camp life and friendships from every state and territory.
- Cuboree. A large-scale state camp built entirely around Cub Scouts (8–11) — often their first taste of truly big-scale camping.
- Venture. The national event for Venturers (14–18), mixing expedition, adventure and social programs.
- JOTA-JOTI. Every October, the world’s largest Scout event happens over amateur radio and the internet — no travel required, just your Group hall and a sense of wonder.
- Agoonoree. Queensland’s own major event, giving young people with special needs an unforgettable camp experience with youth member buddies.
Planning for the big ones
Major events take preparation — fundraising, gear lists, training weekends — and Groups start early. Costs are spread over time wherever possible. Don’t let cost assumptions rule out asking; talk to your Group Leader about how families make these events work.
Try this
If your child is in Cubs now, ask a Scout who’s been to Jamboree what it was like. Watch their eyes light up — then watch yours.
