Take the next step
By the end of this page you will understand the path from interested helper to qualified Leader – and how manageable it really is. Becoming a Leader is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your spare time.
The path, step by step
- Chat with a Group. Meet the team and choose the Section that suits you – Joey Scouts (5–7), Cub Scouts (8–11), Scouts (11–14) or Venturer Scouts (14–18).
- Complete your checks. A Queensland Blue Card and agreement to the Scouts Queensland Code of Conduct come first. It is child safe by design.
- Get appointed. Your District Commissioner helps with a simple appointment process and pairs you with an experienced mentor.
- Start training at your pace. Introductory modules are available through On-Demand eLearning at training.scouts.com.au, delivered by the Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT).
- Work toward your Wood Badge. This is adult leader training at its best – practical, flexible, and completed alongside real experience, not exams.
You will never go it alone
Every new Leader has a mentor, a Section team, and Region support behind them. Most people tell us they felt useful long before they felt qualified.
Try this: reach out to your local Group and ask to sit in on a night. One visit usually settles the question.
