Your role in keeping Scouting safe

This guide is for parents and caregivers. Safety in Scouting works best as a partnership — we bring systems and training, and you bring knowledge of your child and a watchful eye. Together, that’s a strong team.

What you can expect from us

  • Adults with valid Blue Cards and child-safe training.
  • Clear behavioural standards through the Scouts Queensland Code of Conduct.
  • Advance notice and consent for activities, camps and photography.
  • Serious, prompt handling of any concern you raise.

What helps us most

  • Tell us what matters. Allergies, medical needs, anxiety triggers — the more we know, the better we plan.
  • Ask questions. About supervision, sleeping arrangements, activity ratios. Good Groups welcome this.
  • Keep contact details current. Emergency information only works when it’s accurate.
  • Speak up early. Small concerns are easier to fix than big ones.

If something worries you

Raise it with your Group Leader first where possible. If that feels difficult or the matter is serious, your District Commissioner and Scouts Queensland’s official reporting channels are there for you — see our page on reporting concerns.

Try this: Save your Group Leader’s preferred contact method in your phone tonight. Future-you will be glad.
