Two wheels, endless adventure
The Cycling stream gets youth members riding — on paths, trails and mountain bike tracks. Whether it’s a first wobbly ride or a full-day trail adventure, cycling builds skills that stay with you for life.
What the stream covers
- Bike safety checks and basic maintenance
- Riding skills and road or path awareness
- Planning and navigating cycle routes
- Touring and multi-day rides
- Mountain biking and trail riding techniques
- Repairing bikes on the go
Early stages to advanced stages
The early stages focus on the basics — helmet fit, safe riding, checking your bike before you head out. Later stages take riders further: planning their own routes, leading group rides, tackling longer touring distances and handling tougher terrain with confidence.
Why it matters
Cycling builds fitness, independence and freedom. It’s often the first way young people travel under their own steam, and the maintenance skills alone are worth having. Group rides also teach communication, pacing and looking out for each other.
How units deliver Cycling
Units run everything from games on bikes in the hall car park to supported rides on local trails. Our region’s cycling activity leaders help units access qualified support as rides get longer or more technical.
Try this
Give your bike a safety check this week — tyres, brakes, chain — then take it for a ride and note one skill you’d like to improve.
