The standards we hold ourselves to
This page summarises the Scouts Queensland Code of Conduct and why it exists. Every adult member agrees to it — not as red tape, but as a shared promise to the young people we serve.
The heart of the Code
- Treat every young person with respect and dignity. No favouritism, no humiliation, no rough handling — ever.
- Stay within appropriate boundaries. Physical contact is limited to what’s necessary and appropriate for the activity, like assisting with a harness.
- Never be alone one-on-one with a youth member. Visible, shared supervision protects everyone.
- Communicate appropriately. Online contact with youth members happens through official Group channels, with parents informed.
- Model the behaviour we expect. Language, humour and conduct set the tone for the whole unit.
Why boundaries help you too
Clear standards protect adults as much as youth members. When everyone follows the same rules, nobody’s motives can be misread and nobody is left guessing.
If the Code is breached
Breaches are taken seriously and addressed through official processes. See reporting concerns for exactly what to do.
Try this
Re-read the full Code once a year — ideally before your first camp of the season. Fresh eyes catch habits worth checking.
