Cover and requirements, in plain language
This page explains insurance and compliance basics for Groups and volunteers in Moreton Region. Insurance is one of those things nobody thinks about until it matters — so here’s what you actually need to know.
The essentials
- Members are covered. Scouting maintains insurance covering registered youth members, adult members and approved activities, arranged through Scouts Queensland.
- Following process protects cover. Approved plans, permits where required and proper supervision aren’t just safety measures — they keep activities within cover.
- Registered adults only. Adults working with youth members need to be registered and screened; “just helping out” still needs to follow the rules.
Compliance basics for Groups
- Keep member registrations and Blue Cards current — expired records create real gaps.
- Follow financial and reporting requirements set by Scouts Queensland for incorporated Groups.
- Check venue, transport and equipment arrangements meet policy before big events.
When a question comes up
Specific situations — hiring buses, private property use, unusual fundraising — are worth checking before, not after. Your District team can confirm what applies. Nobody expects volunteers to know every clause; we just ask that you ask first.
Try this
Add an annual “compliance check” to your Group committee calendar: registrations, cards, certificates, first aid quals. One hour a year prevents most surprises.
