The adult uniform, made simple

This page helps adult members — Leaders, adult Rovers, Fellowship members and other appointed adults — understand what goes where on the adult Scout uniform. It’s less complicated than it looks, we promise.

The basics

  • The shirt. Adults wear the navy blue adult shirt, which distinguishes adult roles from youth section colours.
  • Name badge and scarf. Your Group neckerchief and your name badge usually come early in your appointment — wear them proudly from day one.
  • Position of responsibility. Badges showing your role sit in defined positions per the national standards.

What adults can earn

  • Wood Badge training awards, recognising completion of adult leadership training across the program.
  • Service and recognition awards, including length-of-service and formal honours.
  • Event and activity badges from supporting major events such as Jamborees and Ventures.

Placement follows the official national uniform standards and badge layout guides. Your District team or Group Leader can walk you through your own setup — everyone’s differs slightly by role and history.

Try this

At your next training weekend, ask a Wood Badge holder about their beads. Every set tells a story worth stealing ideas from.
